SearchMonkey Makes SEO Look Sexy

So it turns out that SEO not only is far from being dead or having no future, it’s actually evolving to a scenario within which we’re getting closer to the usability expert definition the in-house community has been chatting about. The official launch of Yahoo’s SearchMonkey adds up even more on that concept as search engine optimization expands its importance for commercial, branding and lead generation purposes. SEO is getting sexy. Period.

We’re talking about having a platform that empowers web developers in such a way that they are able to enrich the searcher’s experience by providing structured data directly on the SERP. Remember when we used to worry only about the 3 magical SERP elements title, snnipet/description and URL? That was like a few days ago, right? Well, that’s all about to change with SearchMonkey. Basically, you are able to produce two types of results:

  • Enhanced Results: this one works as an enhancement for the traditional snippet format. You can tweak your current listing so it’s more clickable for users. That could be easily achieved with microformats, RDF, XML feeds and a bunch of other cool stuff.
  • Infobars: this one adds up information below the current result and you are able to provide useful links, display an image, rating stars, and pretty much any info or link feature (i.e. add item to cart) that can fit in the space provided. This is huge!

So this is how those two may look:

Sexy, huh? Told ya! SEO is just beginning, baby :)
